I just adore Red-flanked Bluetails so this was my first port of call when I got off Fair Isle in October. This bird was extremely confiding and seemed to have a circuit around the small wooded garden at Isbister where several favoured perches were soon sussed out. It was just such a fun bird that I went back on two days to watch it and at times it would feed just a few feet away from our boots. Despite seeing a number of bluetails in the UK over the years, I saw 3 on Fair Isle last autumn alone, I never get tired of them and this was just a real show off.
