Mew Gull, 1st-winter: Bodega Bay, California, USA - 28th November 2009: The above and following two images relate to the same individual.

Note the brown wash to the lower hind neck, neck and breast sides, reminiscent of the tome and plumage of first-winters.

The bills is slender and pale lemony-green based and there is fine but tight streaking to the forehead and around the eye.

The primaries are still brown and lack obvious white tips and mirrors though there is a suggestion of a mirror to the under-side of P10. There is a dark mark at the base of the tertials and within the now mostly white tail.
