Kittiwake - Adult, Southend Pier, Essex January 2009
Note the elegant long pointed winged appearance, in flight Kittiwakes can be buoyant. Note especially the black dipped in ink wing tip pattern

Kittiwake - Adult, Southend Pier 1st January 2013
Didn't catch this bird right and the colour of the image is slightly off however it does show the dipped in ink wing tip pattern perfectly.
Kittiwake - Adult, Southend Pier 19th January 2014
A solitary Kittiwake took up temporary residence with the MedGulls and was extremely confiding to photograph allowing some excellent images to be obtained that show the characteristics of the species.
Kittiwake - Adults, Fair Isle May 2016
Note breeding birds, here in spring in the north, lack the dusky half collar, greyish hand-neck and darkish ear spot. It still has the wing-tip dipped in ink appearance.
Kittiwake - Adult, Southend Pier, Essex, 4th February 2018
Compare with the breeding birds above. Here this winter bird shows the dusky half collar, greyish hand-neck and darkish ear spot. It still has the wing-tip dipped in ink appearance which contrasts sharply with the white underwing.
