Great White Egret is no longer the big rarity it once was but it is still a rare enough bird locally to get most local birders out for one. This bird appeared in mid August and lingered to months end at least where it favoured 'Great Pound', the fresh water pool at the west end of Bowers Marsh. Here it would be extremely jumpy and flush the moment anyone arrived but waiting for it to drop in often provided good views. This bird provided, eventually, my best ever views of this species locally.
